Importance of Paramedics in Our Society

Paramedics are literally life-savers in life-threatening situations. They are usually the first to provide emergency care to those in need or in any medical help. They are very important because they are the first medical responder to an emergency situation. In fact, they are well-trained to handle a situation that can be traumatic. They can respond to 911 calls for emergency medical assistance, such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) or bandaging a wound. They can assess a patient’s condition and determine a course of treatment, provide first-aid treatment or life support care to sick or injured patients. All the health care workers other than physicians, dentists and nurses who have special training in the performance of supportive health care tasks are come under paramedics Examples are the emergency medical technician, audiologist, and radiological technologist. Also called allied health personnel. Paramedical services are generally defined as services provided by professionals not in the public health system, i.e. not a doctor.

Paramedics are typically utilized as emergency care practitioners on ambulances or on first response emergency vehicles. Opportunities for more specialized employment of experienced paramedics exist in areas such as cruise ship medical departments, off-shore oil drilling platforms, helicopter or fixed wing medical transport and hyperbaric oxygen chambers. Paramedics are in extremely high demand throughout the United States.
